Dear Lemi-Shine, we've got our dishes back!

We have hard water where we live.

No, no really.  We have REALLY hard water.

Lee and I have been married for a little over a year and a half and our new glasses, stoneware, and utensils were starting to look pretty not-clean.  Cloudy and milky looking.  And that chalkiness in our water pictcher--we had white floatees! Okay, it's expected on water glasses, but on our utensils too??

Blech!

Mom K recommended dumping a scoopful of Tang into the dishwasher once a week.  It worked for a little bit. Our glasses were still cloudy though.

Some of our good friends/neighbors, we'll call them The Rabbits, suggested Lemi-Shine.  It works, they said.  You can get it at Walmart, they said.  There is something about phosphorus levels that makes it work, they said.

We didn't run out to get it.  Mostly because we think Walmart is too far away.  And we're lazy.

We finally found it at Smith's (cause that wasn't too far away) and we used it.  We ran it a couple times in our empty dishwasher and we could see the calcium deposits starting to flake away on the heat coil in the dishwasher.  We then washed our dishes with the Lemi-Shine--(cue choruses of angels here) it works!!  Our dishes are B-A-U-tiful again!

We couldn't be more excited about this development.  We tell everyone now!  Thanks so much to the Rabbits for the recommendation and thanks to Envirocon Technologies who makes Lemi-Shine!  It's fun to set our table again!  We are no longer ashamed!

Lee even showered in Lemi-Shine and he's so clean and shiny now!!  (just kidding!)

Lee is clean and happy!
If you're losing the fight to hard water, go pick up some Lemi-Shine.  Promise, it works!

  1. Vinegar also works! They are no longer putting phosphorus in the dishwasher detergent, so everyone will probably be seeing this problem even if they have soft water. :(

  2. We tried vinegar--like a whole gallon throughout a week. It sort of worked--we just have REALLY hard water in B-town.

  3. be warned with the phosphorus no longer in the detergent it won't work amazingly for long - idaho still has phosphorus in their detergent but since walmart is too far, idaho is out of the question. we might be heading to az, which still has phosphorus - we'll pick you up some good detergent from there

  4. Ha ha, Emma! Maybe we'll just start buying it online. Can we do that and it still have phosphorus in it?

  5. Vinegar doesn't work well in Hard Water B-Town! We've tried that as well. I can't tell you how excited I am to try this stuff! I'm so sick of looking like disgusting slobs who never wash our dishes, which of course, isn't entirely the case.
I wonder if Costco sells it...by the gallon. We'll be needing a bunch for sure. And I'm not opposed to dumping some in our shower either, if it really does work. This hard water is about to be the death of me. Thanks for the tips!
